Between improvisation, experiment, contemporary music, and jazz
Elisabeth Coudoux is a German cellist and composer working in free improvisation and contemporary music.
Rooted in classical training, her artistic path has moved through jazz and a wide range of experimental contexts towards a multifaceted practice spanning improvisation and expanded artistic approaches.
Her work centres on musical form in the making—open, fluid and risk-taking. In ever-changing encounters, her artistic voice intertwines with collective perspectives. Attentive listening, curiosity and a subtle sense of humour shape her practice.
Coudoux performs internationally at festivals such as Moers Festival, All Ears Festival, Météo Festival, Roskilde Festival, Krakow Jazz Autumn, Chicago String Summit and artacts, and collaborates widely across the international improvisation scene. She is a member of ensembles including le 7ème continent, Spinifex Maxximus and Fear O’ She, and co-founded the Impakt Collective in Cologne. She has released more than 30 albums as a leader and collaborator.
Alongside solo and ensemble work, she develops performative and installative formats, including Automagic, a light-and-sound environment built from modified car headlights and improvising musicians.
